Review: Megan Meade's Guide to the McGowan Boys

When she was nine, Megan Meade met a group of terrible, mean, Popsicle-goo-covered boys, the sons of her father's friend -- the McGowan boys. Now, seven years later, Megan's army doctor parents are shipping off to Korea and Megan is being sent to live with the little monsters, who are older now and quite different than she remembered them.

Living in a house with seven boys will give Megan, who has never even been kissed, the perfect opportunity to learn everything there is to know about boys. And she'll send all her notes to her best friend, Tracy, in...

Megan Meade's Guide to the McGowan Boys

Observation #1: Being an army brat sucks. Except that this is definitely a better alternative to moving to Korea.
Observation #2: Forget evil, laughing, little monsters. These guys have been touched by the Abercrombie gods. They are a blur of toned, suntanned perfection.
Observation #3: I need a lock on my door. STAT.
Observation #4: Three words: six-pack abs.
Observation #5: Do not even get me started on the state of the bathroom. I'm thinking of calling in a hazmat team. Seriously.
Observation #6: These boys know how to make enemies. Big time.    Megan Meade will have to juggle a new school, a new family, a new crush -- on the boy next door, as in next bedroom door -- and a new life. Will she survive the McGowan boys?

My thoughts about the cover is that it is very ... 2006ish. So it is not  a drop dead gorgeous picture and the outfits are a little out dated - or atleast the sweater is. But the book itself take away all the thoughts about the cover. With four of the McGowan boys in the background of this cover is really what makes it pop - after you read it. Although it is not one I would lust over, it matches the plot and would probably draw the attention of a breezy summer read. And it was I quick summer read even though I read it on January the 2nd.

I L-O-V-E-D all the McGowan boys.  I laughed like a maniac when I read through this. I finished this book within hours of reading and my love was overflowing from this story. The beginning was my favorite. I would gladly of trade with Megan to go live with the McGowan kids- minus the stinker pot little kid. I probaly would have killed him if he did that to my clothes ( read the book to find out what I am rambling about.) and if a guy helped me pick up those kind of things and I had a tiny crush on him. (also read the book or read my spoiler edition review on goodreads.  Just saying that all of the teenage guys in that house were like Abercrombie Models but they all had different personalities that let you get a good variety of McGowan's to choose from. They have one for every taste: Popular,Artistic,Bad Boy, Pimp..... (I personally went for Flinn the artistic one..))
The plot was defiantly something that is knew for me because there was kinda a love triangle and kinda not. Yet it would make for the perfect laughing-in-the-middle-of-summer-on-the-beach -and-people-think-you-are-crazy-like-a-girl-named-Courtney-Wyant-From-Mississippi.  You would think it would be the Girl likes Boy but boy denies her or they make out and parents find them making out. It is defiantly more indepth than that. In fact I really didn't know if Megan was going to end up with any of the boys or not til the last 50 pages. The boy she ends up with is ................................... ( read the book to find out :) )

Beswitched: Interview with Molly Snow

1)  When you were in school did you dread writing an essay or did you jump up and down with joy?
I was always good at writing essays, but I hated it. Writing essays is sooo boring to me, but I can't seem to get away from it; I still have cousins asking me to help them with their essays.

2) Who is your favorite character out of your Beswitched series? Why?
I love the cat, Surla. However, the witch, Idis, is becoming a close second!

3) Which did you have more fun writing out of your 2 books?
BeSwitched was written so long ago, when I was 16. I spent six months writing it out in a notebook, drawing pictures of the characters, doing it all for my own pleasure. I don't think I anticipated having it published one day. BeSwitched Witch was written just a couple months ago, and so the feelings are more recent. I loved writing about Surla and Jax's magnetism in BeSwitched Witch. Okay, okay, I will make a choice! I will say BeSwitched, because I really relaxed into it.

4) Have you tried to write any contemporary before? The first two books in The BeSwitched Series deal with contemporary times. I like to think of them as contemporary fairytales. The 3rd book in the series, I am currently writing, actually takes place in the 1700s--Royally BeSwitched. Surla is thrust back in time with her crush. I am looking forward to seeing how the story plays out. It is a lot of fun to bring contemporary characters into the past.

5) Have any crazed fans yet? I had a fan tell me that she read BeSwitched 3 times in 4 days! I also met her and she was super excited. I guess she counts as a crazed fan. :)

6) What is your advice for the writers of the world? Let loose with your imagination and enjoy the process. Get that rough draft out, then edit later!

7) Favorite country music singer? Josh Turner. I like the song that Scotty McCrary was known for singing over and over during the audition process of American Idol--Your Man :0)

8) How long did it take you to write a book? BeSwitched Witch was written in just 2 months, no kidding. I have readers who love it more than BeSwitched, too. I think I have acquired a feeling for what works and what doesn't, so I can outline something and get it out. My books are also shorter than most, too--about 150 pages.

9) Where were you when you finished writing the last page of Beswitched? Probably laying on the top bunk my bunk bed. I shared a room with my sister all throughout high school. My bed is where I liked to write.

10) What is your thoughts about Pillow Pets? That their song can get stuck in my head! And now they have even littler Pillow Pets, like Pillow Babies or something. Surla would love to have a pillow pet to sleep with, while Idis would probably throw it across the room or burn it in her fireplace. If I were to choose a Pillow Pet for myself, it would probably buy the lady bug.

Thank you so much for having me on your blog as a stop for The BeSwitched Blog Tour, Courtney. It's been fun. [Please remind them of the grandprize giveaway at my blog, too-- mollysnowfiction.blogspot.com]

Regards,

Molly

The year is 2009. Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.
That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.

But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler. Recruit… or kill him.
Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.

Though the book was not for me, I adore this cover. It is so pretty I may just get a copy of the book to just keep it on my shelf for eye-candy.  I don't see how they get the cover models in that position anyhow. It must be difficult. Yet the cover is just that drop dead geourgous, fall to the ground, kinda cover.

Yes the cover is one of the prettier one for 2012, yet it doesn't yet over do the cover of Fever which I am highly anticipating. I mean who doesn't want the sequel to Wither.   I can't wait to see how that series continues but on this one- I wouldn't recommend it minus the lovely cover.

I got three pages into this book and what I expected  to be an amazing read ended up being a book I  just could't get into. I think what turned me off the most was it was written in Male perspective and I am not one to really want to get into a guys head. So halfway through this book didn't speak to me in any way what so ever. So I am glad I didn't dish out my 15 dollars and buy it from Wal- Mart because of the gorgeous cover.

The plot itself was intresting but it didn't captivate my attention like I was seeking. Maybe if it was the girl, Holly, going back in time to save Jackson, I might have liked it but then again, its wasn't whispering words to me.

So this one didn't work miracles and I couldn't get into Julies writing. Maybe the next person who gets this ARC will enjoy it. Or atleast five times better than I ever did.
