Book Feature of the Week-The Sun Zebra- Interview

 I

know I always have a little image for the book feature of the week but I am not on my computer at the moment since it contracted a virus and you try to make things on Picnik on a nook. Not happening, so here I am with the interview. Enough of me rambling here is the interview with Rolando Garcia author of his smash debut The Sun Zebra!

1) So what can you tell us about The Sun Zebra? It is what I call a children's book for grownups.  It’s about adults learning to see the world through the eyes of a child. So far it has received 28 very positive reviews on Amazon. I am very pleased with the reader response.

2) What is your favorite book as a child? Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. That was one wild adventure!

3) If you had to go to a party dressed as a book character who would you dress up as? Definitely the Frankenstein monster, but I would be nicer and more eloquent.

4) What is your advice to the writers of the world? Don’t quit your day job!

5) If you had to go to a deserted island for a week with only 6 things what would they be? I would take food & water, clothes, toilet paper, insect repellant, a lamp light, and an e-reader with a few hundred books in its memory.

6) Green or Red peppermints? Neither, I like chocolate…OK, red peppermints!

7) Which of America's founding fathers do you like the best? Jefferson, he was one of the towering figures of his time.

Kristin

I would love to introduce our newest book blogger at Courtney's Book Nook. I am extremly happy for her to be joing the Courtney's Book Nook crew that used to only consist of me. Here is what she told us about herself-

Hola! I'm Kristin! I'm really not good at writing things like this so if you just don't read this, you're not really missing much. Just a bunch of mindless rambling. Okay, so I'm 14 and the oldest of 3 girls in the family! I am 5'4" and, according to the doctor, not going to grow anymore! I have naturally brown hair, but right now it's red (and sadly it's washing/fading out so it should be gone by next week :( ) and brown eyes. Um I'm just going to get this out there... Music is my life! Like not even kidding. I wouldn't be able to live without music, I always have music playing whether it's an earbud in my ear, or my iPod plugged into my iHome. I have a lot of favorite artists and bands! (Alex Gaskarth *faint* I want him to be mine!!) there are too many to list, but just to sum it up... I have about 2,000 songs on my iPod and more like 5,000 in my iTunes :D. Uh letsee... What else is there? Um HARRY POTTER!!! :) favorite book series ever!!! I dance too! I tap and do ballet! I will be beginning pointe classes next year, and tap is my most favorite!! I absolutely can't stop tapping! Especially when I'm nervous! Weird... I know! ^.^ Disney World is my love! I go there every year! Dumbo is my favorite character! Well, there's a little blurb about me! I'm really excited to start reviewing books!

Review: Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally

What girl doesn't want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn't just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys, and that's just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university. But now there's a new guy in town who threatens her starting position... suddenly she's hoping he'll see her as more than just a teammate.

I really am in love with this lovely cover. Although I must admit I thought the blue jean shorts were a mini skirt at first. It made my mind think, Wait- Is this girl a girly-girl on the football team. Then closer observations helped me realize it was a pair of shorts. The cover is what pulled me in and when I read the synopsis, I was head-over-heels. I was debating whether or not to buy it on my nook and we went in a B&N store in Tupelo  and it was featured in the YA section. I snatched it up and ran to the counter and babbled about how I have been dying to read this book and the women just gave me a Would you just shut up? look. Back on the cover. It really displays the book on the cover and I have one question about the cover. Is it Henry or Ty on the cover with Jordan?

I am going to have to get my model's (Tabby and Maya) to do a few more photoshoots so I can do a Head-Over-Heels little image because this book is one that deserves that image, title, and a many more. It is so much more developed than you would think reading the book. I have to say I am a Henry Girl.

Yes, it is time for everyone to choose: Team Henry- running back who has stolen my heart from the beginning or Team Ty: Quarterback who won the state title in Texas and is so sweet, and protective. I will leave  that up for you to choose.

I saw Jordan as a kick-butt- female character if ever one! I mean she isn't afraid to kick some football boy booty if they point out her being a girl or try to degrade her. She even has her own little pack behind her- Carter, JJ and Henry. I mean she is 6 feet and 170 pounds my 4'11 and 105 pounds is jealous of this football game.  Her with her huge linemen and quick running back- life won't go well if you decide to be sexist to Jordan because it may be the last thing you ever do.

The only thing I had a problem in the WHOLE book was that Ty and Jordan's relationship didn't develop at all. It was I saw him and was instantly in love and within a day we were kissing and making out. I really think it was a total of 5 days before they started to kiss. Way too fast. They needed to know each other before starting to go out. I would have given it a 5 stars but Miranda makes up with it with her excellent writing and even better plot.

Also Jake Reynolds. Give me him! I mean I loved that guy with a passion. He was snarky, hilarious and now is Courtney Wyant's main love interest. ;) (Don't tell Henry!) He was in college and a friend to Jordan's older brother Mike. I kept hoping she would end up with him and I am not going to tell you if he does or if he doesn't if you are a Jake fan like me. I think I may even can start a fan club for my love interest.  So if you are wondering- yes he is taken- by me!

Altogether with few flaws I fell in love with this complex love story. I also loved how Jordan was finally starting to realize she wasn't a guy and she could actually have a love life and girlfriends without being picked on- too much that is. ;) It will have you wishing the boys from the football team were real and went to your school.

Rating: 4.7/5 rounds up to a five nooks. :)

Book Feature of the Week - Thoughtless- Excerpt

From Chapter 4 - Taunted

The bell rang and I slammed my locker shut.  My next class was around the corner; Biology.  Mr. Wellborne would flip if I was late again.  My bag was heavy but I managed to run to class just in time, taking my usual seat.  Today I'd be forced to sit through a boring lecture about the digestive system.
"Hi Bridget."  The girl sitting next to me smiled.  She'd never spoken to me before now.  In Biology class, I usually kept my head down and doodled in my notebook.  Sometimes I had headphones on.  And if Mr. Wellborne ever called on me, he was usually thinking of the answer he was looking for.  That was my system and I stuck to it every class.
"Hey," I replied trying to sound polite, though I knew why she was suddenly friendly.  Her thoughts entered my head, making it hard for me to keep smiling.  She's the girl that snagged Terrence.
"I saw you at the homecoming dance.  Your dress was so pretty."  She flicked her long curls over her shoulder and kept on smiling.  It was clear that she only wanted one thing: the scoop on Terrence - how I'd gotten him, and why he liked me.
"Thanks."  I turned my head forward and broke eye contact.  I could still feel her staring.
"Alright class, it's review time!"  Mr. Wellborne was at the front of the classroom shouting over the giggles and whispers.  "Listen up!  Or fail come test time!"  The room quieted down a little, but not completely.  I opened my notebook to a fresh page and started drawing.  The redhead sitting up front always knew the right answers.  Come test time I'd just focus on her.
Bridget.  The voice was low but I could still hear it over the giggles in the back.  I looked up.
"Yes?"  Mr. Wellborne stopped his lecture, giving me a funny look.  Meanwhile, half the class turned around to look at me.  Their facial expressions mimicked Mr. Wellbourne's puzzled look.
"I'm sorry Bridget.  Did you have a question?"  Mr. Wellborne was looking at me, awaiting an answer.  I shook my head.  I could've sworn he said my name.  I blushed and shook my head.  The class directed their attention towards the front again and my fingers resumed drawing.
Bridget.  The same voice pulsed through my mind again, this time a little louder.  I put my pencil down and looked at the girl next to me.  She saw me looking at her and grinned.  I nodded but she didn't say anything.  I heard the voice a third time.  The louder it got, the raspier it sounded.  Bridget.  I dropped my pencil and annoyingly stared at the students in closest proximity.  They looked as if they were intently listening to Mr. Wellborne's explanation about the different sections of the small intestines.
I decided to keep my head up.  Most of the class had quiet minds.  The majority of the thoughts in the classroom centered around Mr. Wellborne's lecture.  Though a guy in the corner was replaying the graphic night he'd had with his girlfriend.  Sick.  But no one had thoughts that focused on me, not at the moment.
Bridget.  The voice entered my head a fourth time.  No one moved their lips.  No one looked in my direction.  I could feel the muscles in my legs tense up.  Maybe I was just being paranoid?  Bridget.  The voice was getting louder, making the hairs on my arms stand up.  No one was speaking.  I was sure of it.  The raspy voice was a thought – a really creepy thought.
I stared around the room without blinking.  My eyes got watery.  This kind of thing had never happened to me before.  No one, aside from my mom, had ever purposely thought something for me to hear.  The cruel voice came again, this time giving me chills.  Bridget.  I wanted to jump up and yell at the whole class.  But I took a large breath and tried not to jump to any conclusions.  I didn't want anyone to think I was crazy.
Mr. Wellborne continued lecturing in a monotonous tone.  My whole body was tense.  I desperately wanted to leave my seat, run out the door, and breathe in fresh air.  A few drops of sweat lingered on my forehead as I fought my instinct to flee.  I was hearing things, weird things.  What if the voice followed me to my next class or even home?
"Bridget?  Be my partner?"  The girl sitting next to me was waving her hands, trying to get my attention.
"What did you say?" I asked in confusion.
"Be my partner?"  She replied slowly, now doubting her decision to ask me.
"Did you say my name just now?" I whispered.  She gave me a look similar to Rory – the look that told me I was acting like a weirdo.
"Uh, yeah.  We're like supposed to talk about the essay question and stuff?"
"Yeah, of course."  I smiled and laughed, pretending too hard to act casual.  It just made me seem more out of it.  "Sorry, it's just been one of those days."
"Late night Saturday?"  She winked and flicked her hair again.  "I'm Ellie, by the way.  I'm on the cheer squad with your friend Emma.  And Stacy, I thought to myself.  The girl that died Friday during the football game.
"Yeah sure," I muttered.  "So what question are we supposed to talk about?"
"Uh, essay number two on the review sheet.  The roles of the – Bridget- stomach during –Bridget- the breakdown – Bridget- of food."  The raspy voice entered my head, confusing me.  I couldn't focus on anything Ellie was saying to me.  Bridget.  Bridget.  Bridget.
I jumped to my feet with sweat dripping down my cheek.  My chest felt heavy as I let out a few gasps.  Ellie watched with raised eyebrows.  Her thoughts explained the expression on her face.  What the hell is she doing?  Ellie was the only student looking at me.  Everyone else had their attention directed at their assigned essay questions.

Cover Reveal- Falling Away

Jenna's first two years of community college are almost over and it's time to decide where to finish her degree. Should she stay near Harvard to be with Robert, or off to Rutgers, where she really wants to go? Their life together seems perfect but she can't help thinking that maybe there's something more out there. As Sophie and Jhett's wedding nears and Jenna is swamped with Maid of Honor duties, she begins to question if she and Robert will live happily ever after too. Right on cue with her doubts, a familiar dream boy pops up in her dreams again. But Chance's entrance is as abrupt as his exit and Jenna's left wondering about his safety. Concern and curiosity get the best of her and a trip back home puts her within arm's reach of a man that still adores her. Only question is, are Jenna's nerves just playing with her over Robert, or is she suddenly realizing she should've chosen Chance?

Can I tell you people how much I am desiring this book? I mean it is the most exquisite book cover I have seen in FOREVER. I love this one five times more than Falling in Between and I was a big fan of that one also.   Which team are you? Team Chance or Team Robert. I love Chance more just because but I happen to know Devon happens to like Robert a little more from my interview. Maybe she put aside herself and gave Jenna ending up with Chance. All together lovely, lovely, LOVELY cover.
