Title: Shatter Me
Series: Shatter Me #1
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Publisher: Harper Collins Teen
Published: November 15, 2011
Source: Kari @ Bookishly Devoted and a big thanks to Michael Griffith @ Dragon's Book Lair who convinced her to read it and to her for passing it on! I love you two, even though Michael I doubt you know who I am... Oh well. :)
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.
I love the cover!! I mean lately I have been getting the most fantastic books and covers there are in the markets. This one is so sparkly and metalic in real life it is meant to attract us book worms. It is my ulimate pleasure candy. Amazing , attractive cover and lovely, unique writing style. I think I may just wed this book....
The cover also portrays the book well. Oh, so very well. I am glad it didn't have a picture of Adam on their because I have my own mental picture of him for this book, he looks similar to my Travis Maddox except Adam has beautiful blue eyes and Travis has gorgeous brown eyes. *sigh*
The shattering part also reminds me at least that Juliet has amazing strength when she is upset about something. She broke through a freakin' brick wall! Is that not portraying it right than nothing would. Also the dress is right on! Warner had her constantly dress up in dresses instead of the same filthy clothes she had been wearing for almost a year. So that goes along with the book also. Her hands also behind her back shows that she can not touch anyone with out hurting them. And that is a major thing in the book. So whoever designed the cover- congrats! That is one of the best portraying book covers I have ever seen and such an amazing font! I'm smitten!
I just want to say this book is in a category of its own. The writing. Oh. My. Snickerdoodle. It is like nicotine, you are addicted quickly and their is no substitute that will be as powerful and filling as it. Tahereh's name is just as unique as her writing. I loved how Tahereh marked things out as if it were Juliet writing her own story instead of Tahereh. That is one thing I felt about this book.
Her writing was so fluent also. It had you feeling the same emotions Juliet was at the time. It has you falling in love with Adam as she does, maybe we fall in love a little quicker because admit it- who can resist a fiction guy in a YA book with tattoos? Juliet had me hating Warner with every fiber in my being. This author was so persuasive with her characters that if Juliet all of a sudden hated Adam- I may have to kill her if she does- we would follow her to nut job Warner.
Also, Shatter Me contains the most Awe-Aspiring characters along with Juliet. Adam, my dear, dear, dear, Adam. He was so different from any other guy in YA lit- or at least to me. He wasn't all too cocky and he wasn't submissive either. Only one word can describe Adam- Adam. Warner was equally as unique. I really think he was a very twisted character and I pray the Tahereh isn't bias over him to Adam and have Juliet fall for Warner. I may just have jump into the book and shoot Warner with a straight aim right through his cold, blue heart. I will keep to my threat.
Now to my favorite stunning, mindblowing, breathtaking protagonist in a long, long, long time or atleast since 5th grade when I read about Aza in Fairest, - Juliet. She is powerful ,yet she hates the power. She is the most selfless person I have ever read about. She is always putting others infront of her own self. She stands up to Warner even though it may mean her life. She is firm in not touching him. She is so loving to those who want to love her. She is without a doubt the first character that has left me dumbfounded. When I say I love every character in this book I mean that with a vow. These characters are so unique and so well-written they may as well be real.
Now, even if you are not big into dystopian's -like myself- this one is still a must read. Even if you aren't into paranormal- this is still one's must read. I honestly don't like paranormal all that much anymore ,but this one has such a different element and such realism into it, I feel as if I am reading a book that I can relate to instead of a totally different time when the world is at stake.
Let me just say I better see you at a book store buying this book- and soon. :)
